Created in 1960 by Sir Francis Chichester and Blondie Hasler, and often known until 2004 as the OSTAR, The Artemis Transat is the oldest solo sailing race in history. Held every four years since 1960, The Artemis Transat has defined the image of the single-handed sailor, producing some of the greatest sailing legends over the last four decades. It is a grueling 2,800 mile ocean race across the North Atlantic. The race came to Boston in 2008 and is expected to return in 2012 with Fan Pier hosting a number of these sailors.
