Battery Ventures Moves to New Boston HQ from Waltham

Battery Ventures will open its new headquarters in the South Boston Seaport on Monday after moving from its office in Waltham on Friday, a Battery spokesperson said. The venture capital firm’s new office is located at One Marina Park Drive. Battery will occupy the entire 11th floor of the building, with 27,000 square feet of space in total. One Marina Park is owned by The Fallon Co. and is known for housing the MassChallenge startup accelerator (MassChallenge will move to 21 Drydock Ave. in South Boston prior to its 2014 program). Battery becomes the latest of many VC firms in Massachusetts to move from the suburbs to Boston or Cambridge in recent years. Others have included Atlas Venture, Bessemer Venture Partners, Highland Capital Partners, Charles River Ventures and Matrix Partners. In February, Battery announced it closed two new funds totaling $900 million — a tenth venture capital fund at $650 million and a side fund at $250 million. The focuses for the new funds are software (including software-as-a-service) for business users, IT infrastructure, e-commerce, tech-enabled business services and buyouts in software and industrial technologies, according to Battery. Past investments in the Boston area by Battery Ventures have included Akamai (Nasdaq: AKAM) and ITA Software, while the firm’s current portfolio includes local firms Wayfair, Yesware, Pursway and FirstFuel Software. Battery’s plan for moving to Boston from Waltham was first disclosed a year ago. The firm’s Waltham office had been located at 930 Winter St.
