Downtown Raleigh to see more high-rise buildings

The second phase of Raleigh Crossing will have a mixed-use residential tower up to 40 stories. The new zoning is downtown mixed-use with conditions. The previous zoning allowed for development up to 20 stories.

The Fallon Company agreed to conditions that include installing a bikeshare station, creating a public art installation and requiring 1 percent of the residential units be for those making 80 percent or less of the area median income for a period of 18 years.

“This is the first contribution of on-site affordable housing in any of the downtown properties that I’ve seen in my district and so I am excited.” council member Jane Harrison said before making a motion to approve. “I know sometimes it feels like small potatoes that we’re getting but I think every potato counts.”
